Phuket Town
6 min read
Phuket Old Town is the cultural heart of the island — a compact grid of Sino-Portuguese shophouses painted in pastel pinks, blues and yellows. It’s walkable, photogenic and packed with cafés, bakeries and boutique galleries.
What to see
- Thalang Road — the main artery of the old town. Best at golden hour for photos.
- Soi Romanee — once the most notorious street in Phuket, now a row of pink and blue shophouses.
- Standard Chartered Bank (1907) — the oldest bank building in Thailand.
- Street art — over 20 murals scattered around the side sois. Pick up a free map at any café.
Where to eat
For breakfast: Tu Kab Khao (signature southern Thai), or any old kopitiam for a plate of dim sum and traditional Hokkien-style coffee. For lunch: Mee Ton Poe at the clock tower — five generations of Hokkien noodles.
